Ditching The Comparison Game
It's so easy for us to fall into the comparison trap. Everywhere we go, we see people that seem prettier, wealthier, have better jobs.....you name it, someone else has it all together, right??? We're all guilty at one time or another.
What if we could change our way of thinking so that we saw ourselves as individuals, the way God sees us, instead of comparing ourselves to everyone around us?
What if we stopped comparing ourselves to others? What would that look like?
Even better, what would that feel like?
Galatians 6:4-5 says, "Be sure to do what you should, for then you will enjoy the personal satisfaction of having done your work well, and you won't need to compare yourself to anyone else. For we are each responsible for our own conduct."
I love it! "You won't NEED to compare yourself to anyone else."
My favorite part? "We are each responsible for our own conduct." Basically, worry bout yourself.
See, the thing is, we are here because God created us and God created us because He has a purpose for us. He's given us gifts to fulfill our purpose. He's given us our own individual stories and experiences to share with the world.
As long as we are doing what we're supposed to and we're trying our best to stay in alignment with Gods plan for us.....His purpose, there is no reason to compare.
The tricky part is discovering our purpose. We sometimes get so focused on trying to figure it out that we put ourselves in a box instead of imagining all the possible options open to us. We also tend to think we have one purpose only and that's our purpose forever.
The reality is that we actually have several purposes and they change as our seasons of life change. Like when your kids are little and they need you for everything. That may be your purpose at that time. As they get older and don't need you as much, maybe your purpose begins to change into something else. Maybe your purpose is in a career outside of the home.
The possibilities are endless!
The one guarantee is, without God, you won't figure it out. When you listen to and follow Gods lead, you're exactly where He wants you to be. It may not always make sense and it may not even be what you want, but He sees the big picture and He knows where you're going next.
There may be times where we feel we are not fulfilling our purpose but we have no idea what to do or where to go. Be patient in those moments. Instead of getting frustrated, ask God for direction during the waiting period. And if you still feel like you're not hearing anything, continue to be patient, pray, and don't do anything. I can tell you from experience, you will drive yourself crazy trying to figure it out on your own, so just wait.
~Ask God to help you see yourself as He sees you (Pray this everyday & just watch what happens)
~Read His word daily & pray (My favorite bible is the NLT Life Application Bible-It has notes to help)
~Remember God has a purpose for you. Ask Him for direction & be patient
~Be open minded, this isn't about what you want, it's about what God has planned for you.
~Ask Him to help you to not play the comparison game.
~Remember He created you just the way He wants you to be. Therefore, there is NO comparison
This may be difficult, but if you stay focused on your time with God, it will all fall into place. You will quit falling for the comparison game. You'll see how amazing you are, how far you've come, and how much God loves and believes in you.
Praying for all you amazing ladies as you grow in your relationship with God and yourself.
Till next time, have a fabulous week & take care of you!
